I started working on some black and white non-objective paintings in the tall format canvases, 48" high by 10" wide. Previously when I had painted in black and white, I let the colors mix, forming grays, and included grays and parchment in my definition of "black and white."
In these canvases, I wanted to have only black on white without them really mixing into other shades. I also wanted to use simple, rather stark compositions, ala Franz Kline and Robert Motherwell. It's an experiment to see if this kind of painting format works for me.
How exciting! You know I love experimenting! I think it's a fabulous start! I'm looking forward to seeing how your works develop.
I've been doing something a little similar, only I am using color too... and I am just playing in my sketchbook/journal right now. My little experiment had some strong "pure" black and white working in it. I posted one of them on my blog, and I am working on another one today, I would love it if you took a peak and let me know what you think. :)
